The Biology of Health and Disease domain investigates the fundamental biological processes that drive human health and disease.

Our researchers aim to understand how cellular, molecular and metabolic mechanisms influence development to inform better prevention, treatment and care.

Research focus

We study biological mechanisms that underpin health and disease, including human development and function, to help improve prevention, treatment and care, with a large focus in exercise and nutrition. Research in this domain includes healthy and clinical populations across the lifespan.

Our research focus includes:

  • Cardiovascular and metabolic health
  • Physiology and nutrient metabolism
  • Human growth, development and function
  • Conditions such as obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, muscle wasting and motor neurone disease.
