We develop evidence-based solutions to prevent and manage chronic health conditions.
Our research designs, tests and implements nutrition, physical activity and behaviour change approaches to support people at risk for or living with conditions like heart disease, diabetes, cancer, musculoskeletal disorders and mental health.
Our research focus
We help people live longer, healthier lives by focusing on prevention, early intervention and better management of chronic conditions. We develop and test lifestyle-based strategies to promote optimal health and wellbeing and reduce the impact of chronic health conditions.
We explore how healthy eating, active living and sleep interact and can support long-term health. Our work spans epidemiology, clinical/experimental investigations and behavioural intervention trials; through to research into smart/digital technologies that deliver evidence-based care for better health. We also study how the brain, heart and muscles respond to lifestyle changes using advanced tools and techniques.
Research groups
Digital health for lifestyle and disease management
Focuses on developing and evaluating effective, scalable digital solutions for the prevention and management of chronic diseases.
Musculoskeletal health and mobility
Improves movement, strength and quality of life through exercise, nutrition and targeted programs. The team works across the lifespan to reduce injury, manage chronic pain and delay the onset of musculoskeletal conditions.
Physical activity and nutrition for cognitive and mental health
Explores how physical activity, diet and behaviour change can optimise mental health and cognitive function across the lifespan. Studies include imaging, clinical trials and population research.
Exercise and nutrition for cancer
Investigates how tailored exercise and nutrition strategies can improve outcomes before, during and after cancer treatment. Work informs clinical guidelines and supports recovery, wellbeing and long-term survivorship.
Nutrition, physical activity and metabolic diseases
Focuses on dietary and physical activity strategies for the prevention and management of chronic metabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
